Course CAD II: 3d Modelling with Rhinoceros at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle. This course delved into creating complex 3D models with advanced design tools. The subject of modeling was a game console controller with interesting freeform surfaces. Students learned to model based on custom drawings, navigate Rhino’s import/export interfaces (useful for rendering or 3D printing), and grasp the fundamentals of the Grasshopper plugin and rendering techniques.
The focal points included generating freeform surfaces, ensuring curve and surface continuity, analyzing models for geometry errors, and understanding shading, mapping, and UVW(the shell of the controller). Importantly, the course covered Grasshopper basics for parameterizing models(the rubber of the joysticks). From crafting intricate surfaces to mastering the nuances of rendering and parametric design, CAD2 provided a comprehensive exploration of advanced tools and techniques in the world of computer-aided design.
